Botox® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the FDA (The Food and Drug Administration) as a temporary treatment for moderate frown lines between the eyebrows.

BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the chemical signals that cause muscles to contract. When muscles don’t contract, the skin flattens and appears smoother and less wrinkled. BOTOX® Patients can expect the results to last 4-6 months with little or no side effects. Areas that can be targeted include in-between your eyebrows, crow’s feet and facial wrinkles on the forehead.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

Botox® CosmeticDuring treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, BOTOX® Cosmetic enables them to relax.

The effects are very localized and, when administered by one of our board certified plastic surgeons, do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression.

What is treatment like?

Botox® CosmeticBOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few tiny injections. An Austin-Weston Center physician will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve the best results for you. No anesthesia is required, though your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting.

The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and there is no downtime afterward. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

While BOTOX® Cosmetic Surgery offers a high degree of patient satisfaction, The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery encourages you to speak with one of our board certified plastic surgeons about the many surgical and non-surgical options available to you to help you look and feel your best.
